About Smith’s

A Restaurant in Paddington

There are restaurants near Paddington Station and then there is Smith's. Set on the banks of the Grand Union Canal in Paddington Basin, Smith's Bar & Grill is a modern British restaurant where considered cooking meets one of central London's most distinctive settings. Floor-to-ceiling windows onto the water, a marble bar running the length of the room, and a canal-side terrace made for warm evenings.

Head Chef David Reyes leads a kitchen grounded in quality British produce and precise technique. Scottish beef dry-aged for 28 days and finished over live fire. Hand-dived Dover scallops and Maldon rock oysters. The menu shifts with the seasons and the sourcing is considered, which is most of what separates a dinner you remember from one you do not.

Every dish is matched by a list curated by Head Sommelier Maurizio Titone, which runs from a serious by-the-glass selection through to some of the finest Burgundy and Barolo in London.

Breakfast in Paddington

Open at 8am on weekdays and 9am at weekends, a short walk from Paddington Station. Full English, eggs Benedict and Royale with in-house smoked salmon, mushroom and truffle Benedict, and lighter things if the day calls for it.

Lunch in Paddington

The dining room next to the canal: calm enough for a working lunch, comfortable enough to take your time over one. Lunch is served daily from noon, with a set menu Monday to Friday at two courses for £26 or three for £29.

Dinner in Paddington

Dinner runs from noon until 11pm, and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Dry-aged Scottish steaks over fire, whole fish, a seven-course tasting menu on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Walk-ins are welcome, especially at the bar, but we would recommend booking for lunch and dinner. For Saturday brunch and Sunday roast, please do book.

First for the food: dry-aged steaks chargrilled over fire and service to match. But regulars know us just as well for £1 oysters at the bar on Friday and Saturday evenings, a bottomless Sunday roast from midday, a seven-course tasting menu at weekends, bottomless brunches on Saturdays and one of the few genuinely canal-side terraces in central London.

Yes. The terrace looks out over the Grand Union Canal and opens in warmer months. It fills quickly on a sunny day.
