Smith's Bar & Grill ("we", "us", "our") of 25 Sheldon Square, Paddington, London W2 6EY operates this website, our reservation services, and our social media presence, including our Facebook Page and Instagram account. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Who we are

2. Information we collect

  • Reservations and enquiries. When you book a table or contact us, we receive the details you provide (name, contact details, party size, and any preferences you share).
  • Social media. When you interact with our Facebook Page or Instagram account - for example by commenting on a post, sending us a direct message, or mentioning us - we receive that content together with your public profile name, through Meta's services.
  • Website. Our website is hosted on Squarespace, which may set basic functional cookies. We do not run our own advertising trackers on this site.

3. Our social media management tool

We use an internal software tool ("Smith's Bar & Grill Social") built on Meta's official APIs to help us manage our own Facebook Page and Instagram account. This tool:

  • publishes and schedules our own posts;
  • reads and lets us respond to comments on our posts and direct messages sent to our accounts;
  • shows us aggregated statistics about our own accounts (such as follower counts and post reach).

This tool only accesses data available to our own Page and Instagram account through Meta's APIs. It does not collect data about your browsing, does not track you across other websites or apps, and does not access your private profile information beyond what Meta makes available to any page you interact with (such as your public name when you comment or message us).

4. How we use information

We use the information described above to take and manage your bookings; reply to your messages, comments and reviews; run and improve our social media presence and offers; and meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

5. How long we keep information

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above, and then delete it. Social media content (comments, messages) remains on Meta's platforms and is governed by Meta's own terms and privacy policy; copies handled by our management tool are not retained longer than needed to respond to you.

6. Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict our use of it, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

7. Data deletion requests

To request deletion of any personal information we hold about you - including any information handled through our social media management tool - email socials@smithsbarandgrill.co.uk with the subject "Data deletion request", telling us your name and how you interacted with us (e.g. your Instagram or Facebook username). We will confirm the deletion within 30 days. You can also delete your comments or message threads directly on Facebook or Instagram at any time.

8. Third-party services

  • Meta (Facebook and Instagram): our social presence runs on Meta's platforms - see Meta's Privacy Policy for how Meta itself handles your data.
  • Squarespace: hosts this website.
  • OpenTable / reservation providers: if you book through a reservation service, that service's own privacy policy also applies.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be at this address, with the effective date shown at the top.
